Your Morning Coffee May Help You Boost Your Fat Burning

Your Morning Coffee May Help You Boost Your Fat Burning

For a long time, claims have been made about coffee and its ability to boost your fat burning. Now, research has strongly backed these claims with research results that offer compelling evidence to people working to get their weight under control.

What the Research Found

The research found that drinking coffee with caffeine in it can help to boost your fat burning.  The study showed that this popular morning drink has an impact on brown adipose tissue (BAT), which is a kind of brown fat in your body. The paper on the research was published in the Cell journal with a follow-up statement in Scientific Reports, which explained that: “caffeine can promote BAT function at thermoneutrality.”

What does this mean?  It means that the researchers found that yes, caffeine can help to boost your fat burning.  It does so through a process called thermogenesis.  Thermogenesis is a process that occurs naturally in your body.  It’s what causes your body to produce heat.  “Thermo” means heat and “genesis” means creation.  It’s the creation of heat in your body.

Think about other ways to produce heat.  For instance, a fire needs fuel in the form of oxygen and wood, natural gas or something else that burns. In the case of your body, to produce heat, it uses fuel such as calories from food or fat stores, to put it very simply.  Therefore, when thermogenesis increases, such as through caffeinated coffee consumption, you boost your fat burning.

How Much Does It Boost Your Fat Burning?

So far, the researchers don’t have a specific measure in terms of the pounds you’d see on the scale. That wasn’t the purpose of the study.  What they did find was that the thermogenesis that will boost your fat burning was so powerful that they could measure the temperature difference in the brown fat.

For example, brown fat is stored in areas such as on the neck.  The researchers who conducted the study found that these brown fat containing areas were measurably hotter among those who had had caffeinated coffee than they were among those who had not.  This shows that thermogenesis and its ability to boost your fat burning was considerably higher after caffeinated coffee was consumed.

How to Benefit from Thermogenesis

If you want to increase thermogenesis in your body in a similar way, you have options. You can drink coffee, as was the case in this study.  You can also look for diet pills with caffeine or even coffee as an ingredient.
